Flu Shots:

As your health care provider, we at Anderson Family Medicine are committed to helping you avoid illness and stay healthy.  We want to remind you that the flu can be a serious, even fatal condition.  Please think about receiving the best protection from the flu - a yearly flu shot.

The best time to get the flu shot is from October through December.  However, since the flu season sometimes extends as late as April, you can still get some protection even if you get the shot as late as February.

The flu shot

  • Can lower your chances of getting the flu and reduce the severity of the illness
  • Is a “killed” virus and cannot cause the flu
  • Is safe and for most people causes minor, if any, side effects
  • Is recommended for all persons aged 50 and older and those with chronic medical conditions including diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cardiovascular disease (except hypertension)
  • Is recommended for women who will be pregnant during the influenza season

Please note that the flu shot may not be recommended if you:

  • Have ever had a severe reaction to eggs or the flu shot
  • Have ever had Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Please call our office today at (706) 265-1335 and we will schedule an appointment for you to come in for a flu shot.  If you received the flu shot at work or in another clinic, please call our office with the date the vaccine was received so we can note it in your medical records.
